English Premier League side Brighton have started the process of strengthening their team for the challenges of next season, where they will take part in the UEFA Europa League for the first time, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Brighton ended the season as one of the most feared team in the English top division with manager Roberto De Zerbi earning praises for how he took the team to another level after replacing Graham Potter.
Ahead of next season, the coach has made signing of a left sided center back his main priority with Levi Colwill who spent a season on loan at the club from Chelsea his number one option. However Chelsea are not willing to negotiate his sale.
Chelsea’s stand has now forced Brighton into looking at other options and Nigeria international defender Calvin Bassey tops their alternative list of players. He has struggled at Ajax this season following his move from Rangers last summer.
Ajax are open to letting the 24 year old leave and will demand a fee in the region of £24m but all of that could change if a new coach takes over and decides to keep the Nigerian, who has played as a center back and left back this season.
