The first choice goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria Francis Uzoho is considering a break from international football after receiving all manners of threats in the wake of the Super Eagles 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Uzoho hasn’t covered himself in glory lately with too many errors that has resulted in a goal including the goal that sent Ghana to the 2022 World Cup ahead of Nigeria. His latest gaffe came against Zimbabwe when he was beating from over 40 yards with a free kick.
Nigerians came hard on the Omonia Nicosia shot stopper on social media platform X formerly known as Twitter forcing him to deactivate his account. A source said he is also considering a break from international football to save himself from online abuse and threats to not just him but his family.
” He (Uzoho) will make a decision on his international future when the heat dies down. The idea is to take a break like Maduka Okoye did due to attacks and threats to his family online. Maybe then people will understand that playing for Nigeria is a sacrifice for most of these guys.
” Uzoho wants to be the best for Nigeria and he is working so hard to make it that way but when things don’t go as planned he gets too many sticks. Criticism is allowed but all out threats on his family is a not acceptable. He hasn’t been loved since his debut and it is getting to him now more than ever”, he stated.
