Gent of Belgium striker Gift Orban who holds the record for the fastest hattrick scored in UEFA competitions isn’t in the Super Eagles provisional list of players for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Orban whose international future is shrouded in controversies over his true nationality with Togo laying claim to him broke Mohammed’s Salah’s record with a hattrick against Istanbul Basaksehir in this season’s Europa Conference League.
He set the record when he scored a hat trick within 3 minutes and 25 seconds which is faster than that of Salah who bagged his inĀ 6 minutes 12 seconds in Liverpool’s Champions League encounter against Rangers last year.
The record still wasn’t good enough for him to be considered for a spot in the Super Eagles 55 man list. Orban is presently among the top scorers in the Europa Conference League with five goals .
Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro forwarded a 55 man list of players to the Confederation of African football (CAF), from where he will pick his final 27 man list for the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire next year.
