Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has revealed what the team need to do in order to win the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Cote d’Ivoire next year.
Ahead of the January tournament, the coach has been told only a run to the final will keep him in his job as the coach of the team and he has outlined what they need to do in order to meet the target set by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
He said their first objective will be to get out of their group, which has the host, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea. ” It starts with getting out of the group. That is first aim and finishing as the winners will also be a boost”, the coach said.
Peseiro went further to explain that to go further after the group stage, they will need to be at their best in defence with to back the attack which he strongly believe will deliver the goals at the tournament.
” We have to defend really well when we are out of the group. That is a must because in the knock out round defending is key to your progress. The attack we know can score goals even defenders can join the attack and score but you have to defend against it.
” When you have your defence not conceding goals, the confidence flows to the attack and the result is always good for the team particularly in a tournament that you want to win”, he concluded.
