The president of Portuguese giants FC Porto has used his influence to protect Nigeria international defender Zaidu Sanusi from being demoted to the B team of the club, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

According to Portuguese media Record, the president of Porto Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa stopped head coach Sérgio Conceição from demoting the 26 year old to the B team.

Zaidu has only played four games this season due to injury and fitness issues. But it appears there is a breakdown in his relationship with the coach who used to have unwavering faith in him before now.

The coach defended him when he was the subject of heavy criticism from fans of the team. But that faith has waned this season with the coach not willing to have him around the first team anymore and it’s why he hasn’t been listed in their last two games.

Linked with a move to English Premier League side West Ham, his future will be sorted in January where he is expected to campaign with the senior national team of Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
