Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has retained the services of Nuno Carrapato as the goalkeeper coach of the team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Carrapato trained the goalkeepers ahead of the friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively in the absence of the substantive trainer of the team Abideen Baruwa due to visa issues.

He has now been handed the same role for the AFCON and was among the coaches who posed with Peseiro upon his arrival at their camp for the AFCON in Abu Dhabi.

The Portuguese coach isn’t new to Peseiro as they both worked together at C. D National where he was the first choice goalkeeper with Peseiro as his coach in the 2002-2023 season.

That season he posted nine clean sheets in 27 matches and he will be expected to bring his wealth of experience as a retired goalkeeper and now a trainer to the team, who are facing a crisis in the area of goalkeepers.
