The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will investigate the circumstances surrounding the decision to drop Sadiq Umar from the Super Eagles squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Sadiq was dropped and replaced by Paul Onuachu when it was said that the knock he received against Guinea in a friendly game will keep him out for three weeks. However he is back in action for his team and will likely play in today’s Copa Del Rey game against Osasuna.
His return to full fitness has sparked debate about why it was said by the medical crew of the Super Eagles that he will be out for that long, which happened to be false owing to his quick return. The NFF will now launch an investigation into the issue.
” We (NFF) trust our medical team and have no doubt about their competency but with the swift return to full fitness of a player that they said will be out for three weeks naturally should warrant some form of explanation, deeper than what was earlier said by the them”, a board member of the NFF said.
” Even the head coach will like to know because such can’t be allowed to be swept under the carpet. That said the immediate focus is on getting a result against the host (Ivory Coast. Every other thing can follow after then”, he concluded.
