The former captain of ten senior national team of Nigeria Sunday Oliseh says Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika who made his AFCON debut for Nigeria did his chances of more game time a lot of good with his performance, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Onyedika made his AFCON bow in the 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in the final group game of Nigeria at the tournament coming on as a substitute. It was only his third cap for the senior national team of Nigeria.
The former FC Ebedei prospect replaced his fellow academy graduate Frank Onyeka coming in at the same time with Alex Iwobi who substituted Joe Aribo as Nigeria wrestle to gain control of the midfield.
Reacting to his performance, Oliseh was full of praise for the 24 year old for the manner which he acquitted himself in the middle of the pack, even though he came in at a time when the game was stretched with Nigeria getting dominated in the midfield.
” He (Onyedika) brought stability with his strength on the ball and also the way he won back possession. His passing range was quite simple and helped the team to build momentum quickly. With that performance he should play a lot more”, Oliseh said.
