Players of the senior national team of Nigeria have voiced out their desire for the 3-4-3 system to be adjusted after facing difficulties in dispatching South Africa in the semi final, a game which they won 4-3 via penalty kicks after both teams remained locked at 1-1 after extra time, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Super Eagles switched to the system after drawing 1-1 against Equatorial Guinea in their opening game of the tournament. It has helped them progress all the way to the final but they struggled to impose their style and system on South Africa in the semi final.

South Africa used a 3-5-2 system and it clearly had Nigeria on the back foot for large spells of the gameĀ  but still couldn’t break down the Nigerian team, who even took the lead via the spot through William Troost-Ekong after Victor Osimhen was fouled in the box.

The players felt there should be a review of the system to avoid a repetition of what they felt was suffering, plus it has left them fatigue because of the amount of grounds they have to cover in order to make up for the two man midfield in Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka.

It has have a tool on the forward three of Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman and it’s partly why they looked exhausted in the second half against South Africa.
