The nationality switch of former England youth team goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has been approved by world football governing body (FIFA) making him eligible to play for the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
22 year old Okonkwo who is on loan to English League Two side Wrexham from Arsenal applied for a switch of nationality to Nigeria from England where he was a junior youth international playing a total of 11 games from U15 to when he had his last cap for the U18 in 2018.
Per what we exclusively gathered FIFA approved the switch making him available for selection by the head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro, however that is dependent on his form with Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali fully established as the new first choice goalkeeper of the team after a splendid showing at the AFCON.
At Wrexham, a third division side he has kept goal in 26 games in all competitions and has 11 clean sheets while conceding just 26 goals in the process. Last season he had a fairly good time with Austrian side Sturm Graz with six clean sheets in 18 games.
Prior to his move to the Austrian side he spent the first half of last season on loan to Crewe Alexandria in League Two where he kept ten clean sheets in 36 games. While his international future is sorted, his club future will be cleared in the summer when he returns back to Arsenal from his present loan spell.
