Revealed- The Two Favourites In The Race To Replace Jose Peseiro As Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has two names as favorites for the job of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria in the event that they fail to reach an agreement on extending the contract of Jose Peseiro, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Peseiro’s contract as coach of the Super Eagles ran out at the end of last month and despite meeting the target of reaching the target of the semi final of the AFCON for an extension, he is yet to accept the terms sent to him by the NFF.

As we exclusively reported, while he is demanding for a whooping $120,000 a month as salary, the NFF offered him $50,000, but three days ago an improved offer believe to be in the region of $80,000 was lodged by the NFF.

They have given the coach a deadline which will last till the end of this month to consider the improved offer, or they will look elsewhere for his replacement and they have already set the wheel in motion in regards to that.

We exclusively gathered that it is now down to two names in Emmanuel Amuneke and American trained Nigerian coach Michael Nsien. The duo per what we gathered will be involved in whatever set up the football house arrived at when a final decision is taken on the vacant role.

Amuneke has the backing of former players of the senior national team of Nigeria, while Nsien who is presently the head coach of the U16 and U19 of the United States of America.

Nsien who is said to have the backing of some top shots in the board bar the president Ibrahim Musa Gusau holds a U.S. Soccer Pro License and UEFA “A” License, while Amuneke who is also in the dark over if he is the preferred option of Gusau has handled the national team of Tanzania, teams in Egypt, Zambia and Sudan as well. He was also a former coach of the U17 and U20 of Nigeria.

The former Barcelona winger has twice served as assistant to the coaches of the Super Eagles and on both occasions, the team he was with failed to make it to major tournaments. The last of which was the defeat to Ghana in the play off for the 2022 World Cup, where he was assistant to Austine Eguavoen.
