The senior national team of Nigeria played their first game since finishing second at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when they took on Ghana in an international friendly game in the Morrocan city of Marrakesh, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria secure a 2-1 win over Ghana with goals from Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman ensuring that Jordan Ayew’s goal from the spot in time added on ended up as a mere consolation.
It was the first game that caretaker coach Finidi George took charge of the team following the exit of Jose Peseiro upon the expiration of his contract last month.
After the game Dessers was asked about the difference he noticed in the style of play of both coaches, and he praised the attacking approach of the interim coach which is in sharp contrast to the defensive style they played with the AFCON under Peseiro.
“Before the game we had a meeting and he wanted us to press more aggressive and I think we did it especially in the first half, we did it very very good then you see we got chances out of this and it gives confidence to the team that we can attack more, create more chances and that is a good thing and I think this is the way Super Eagles should play”, he explained at the post match presser.
