A member of the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it’s looking very likely that present interim coach Finidi George will be the next permanent coach of the team, OwnGoalNigeria. com reports.

Nigeria is without a substantive coach following the departure of Jose Peseiro as coach upon the expiration of his contract after the Africa Cup of Nations, where the team finished as runners up losing 1-2 to the host Cote d’Ivoire.

It made the NFF to appoint Finidi George in temporary charge for the friendly games against Ghana and Mali. They made a winning start beating Ghana 2-1 and will take on Mali today.

There has been calls for an indigenous coach to be left in charge with the duo of Emmanuel Amunike and the current interim coach leading the pile, but according to former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba who is a member of the technical committee of the NFF, the body responsible for making recommendation for a new coach Finidi has a good chance of staying in his role on a permanent basis.

While speaking on Monday Night Football anchored by Charles Anazodo, Ikepba while responding to a question on if the current coach of Enyimba has any chance of staying in his job beyond the game against Mali, he said it looks a lot likey.

“I am happy with what Finidi is doing with the Super Eagles. I am in the system and I know what he’s doing. Don’t forget that I am in the committee set up to do the right thing.

“From what I have seen from the players’ comments, it’s looking good for Finidi George.

“As I speak right now, I think it’s looking good for him. Mind you. I am not the decision-maker, I am one of the people who will advise the NFF. but it’s looking good for Finidi.”
