The coach of Bournemouth Andoni Iraola has added his voice to the continuos snub of Dominic Solanke by the head coach of England despite his 16 goals in the English Premier League, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.
Solanke hasn’t added to his one cap picked up for England in 2017 and with the Euros on the horizon, the 26 year old wasn’t considered for the English national team last round of matches before the tournament begins in Germany.
*It means his chances of going to the Euros is now very slim, but Iraola believe it’s nothing to do with the talent of the gangling forward rather it’s about the choice of the coach”, the coach said ahead of yesterday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
“It’s not a matter of goals. It’s not like ‘I have to score 20 goals to make my presence kind of mandatory’.
“No, it’s a matter of playing well, because I’m sure it’s not like Gareth Southgate is just looking at the numbers, he will be looking at the performances. His performance has been very, very good since the beginning of the season.
“But also we have to understand the national team manager has a very, very difficult job to do, because the others he selects are also very, very good players.
“So it’s a matter of who fits better in his system, who he trusts more more. But it’s obvious that Dom Solanke is doing his merits to have a chance with the national team”
Despite having one senior cap for England, Solanke is still eligible for the senior national team of Nigeria and posted pictures of himself watching the team at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations on his social media handle.
