One player who wasn’t lucky to get a look in during the tenure of Jose Peseiro as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria has to be Ajax number 10 Chuba Akpom, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Akpom has hit a rich vein of form at Ajax after a slow start to his career with the Dutch giants following his move from English Championship side Middlesbrough where he was finished as top scorer and most valuable player (MVP) of the English second tier.
The 28 year old has already completed a switch of nationality process from England to Nigeria for the past three years, but hasn’t been called up yet although it was only last season that he really got his club career up and running.
His representative claimed erstwhile coach of the team Jose Peseiro wasn’t quite keen on having him in the team, saying it wasn’t a case of the coach not being aware of the fact that he is eligible to play for Nigeria.
” The first contact happened after the season he had at Middlesbrough, but then his Nigerian passport wasn’t ready and when he finally got one, Peseiro was informed but he didn’t fancy having him in his team but there is enough time, and all he has to do is to maintain his current run of form for his club”, he said.
