We exclusively gathered that the three names in the list are all foreign coaches and it’s likely the trio of Dutch coach Danny Buijs, Spanish coach Domenec Torrent and Portuguese coach Toni Conceição. There was no space in the list for Emmanuel Amunike.

Amunike has the backing of powerful individuals, who are advocating for an indigenous coach but the committee today unanimously agreed that a foreign coach with Finidi George as assistant is best for the team judging by the crucial stage of the world cup qualifiers.

Nigeria currently trail group leaders Rwanda by two  points, which means their next two games when the qualifiers resumes will go a long way in determining if they will make it to the world cup in 2026. It is on the back of that they have recommended three coaches, but with special consideration for Portuguese coach Toni Conceição.

Conceição’s experience on the African continent is key to his chances and gives him and edge among the three coaches left in the job. His record of two losses in two years while handling Cameroon speaks volumes of his suitability for the job.
