The newly appointed coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George has been given yrh mandate to make sure the team qualifies for the 2026 World Cup and get to at least the semi final of the next Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

It means his task which begins in June when the team take on South Africa and Benin Republic in the world cup qualifiers will require calling all the best available players for the team, with the coach also confirming that only players who are regulars at their club side will be given a look in.

One player who is keen on being a part of the new setup under the coach is Udinese right full back Kingsley Ehizibue. A former youth international for the Netherlands who was called up by former coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

He didn’t honor the call, with Rohr explaining that it was due to immigration issues as he current status as a Dutch citizen will be compromised if he switched his nationality, and obtained a Nigerian passport.

However that appears to not be the case anymore as his representative revealed to OwnGoalNigeria.com that the desire of the 28 year old is still to represent Nigeria at senior level ” Two years ago he voiced out his desperation to wear the colors of Nigeria. It is still the same burning desire and hopefully he will get a chance to be a part of the new setup”, he said.
