The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George has made a late change to the squad of the senior national team of Nigeria for their upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers game against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Finidi will lead the Super Eagles for the first time in a competitive game in June following his permanent appointment as the coach of the team on a one year deal with the option of a further year, if he gets to the semi final of the next Africa Cup of Nations.
They will host South Africa in Uyo on the 7th of June before keeping a date with Benin Republic in Cote d’Ivoire as they bid to make up for what is a poor start to the qualifiers, with back to back draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively.
Ahead of the game, the coach sent provisional invitation to 35 players with a final 25 man list set to be picked from it by the weekend. However there is a late change to the final list per what we exclusively gathered.
” Frank Onyeka is out of both games after missing the last two games for Brentford. His replacement has been contacted and when the list becomes official you will see the player that took his spot. He will be sorely missed because he fits the plans of the coach but nothing can be done about it”, a team source told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
