Man Utd New Signing Zirkzee Reveals Discussion With Ex Super Eagles Coach On Playing For Nigeria

Newly signed Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has revealed how close he came to playing for the senior national team of Nigeria after a meeting with former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.

Rohr was in charge of the Super Eagles from 2016 till 2021 and he made frantic efforts to get players of Nigerian descent to pledge their allegiance to the senior national team of Nigeria, and the list includes Zirkzee.

A new signing from Serie A side Bologna, the lanky forward who started his career at Bayern Munich met with the then coach of Nigeria in Germany , where he sold him the idea of what he intends to do with him in the setup.

The scorer of 13 Serie A goal for Bologna last season said he met with Rohr very early into his club career at Bayern Munich and revealed what he told the coach , who is now in charge of Benin Republic.

” I was very young when I met with the coach of Nigeria. Around 18 or so and he told me what his plans with me in the team looks like and I asked for time to make a decision”, Zirkzee said.

” My desire has always been to play for the Netherlands and I am glad it finally came to pass at the Euros but I am grateful for the approach from Nigeria”, he concluded.
