The star of the senior national team of Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) William Troost-Ekong marked his return to action with the winning goal in the Uefa Champions League qualifiers to hand PAOK a 3-2 win over Borac.
Voted as the most valuable player (MVP) at the AFCON where Nigeria finished second after losing 1-2 to the host Cote d’Ivoire in the final, Ekong scored a similar goal to the one he scored when he opened scoring in the final game of the Africa football showpiece.
Ekong who hasn’t played since February due to the injury he picked up at the AFCON rose highest to head home what ended as the winner for the Greek side over the hard fighting Bosnians in the 51st minute.
He stood firm to ensure that his side take the win ahead of the second leg of the encounter, which will take place on Wednesday at the home ground of Borac. The winner of the tie on aggregate will progress to the next round of the preliminary stages of Europe’s elite club tournament.
