The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made plans to prepare the list of players who will be invited to the senior national team of Nigeria for the start of the AFCON qualifiers owing to the absence of a substantive coach for the team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Super Eagles will be back in action in September but the NFF is yet to appoint a new coach for the team following the exit of Finidi George as the coach of the team after the disappointment of the last international window, where they were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa before losing 1-2 to Benin Republic.
With August around the corner and a coach yet to be appointed, a chieftain of the NFF said plans are already underway for the list of invited players for the games in September to be prepared by the technical department of the football house, and it will be submitted to whoever gets the nod as coach of the team.
He said it’s not the first time such steps have been taken by the football body, insisting that it’s standard practice for the technical department of the federation to prepare the list and hand it over to the coach, since they also monitor the performances of the players at their respective teams.
If a coach isn’t appointed by the first week of August, the NFF will send out provisional invitation to a pool of players under consideration by head of the technical department Austine Eguavoen, who has also handled the team as coach in the past.
