38 Year Old Spain International Takes Credit For Iheanacho’s Move To Sevilla- He Made Him Snub West Ham, Stuttgart

The proposed transfer of Kelechi Iheanacho to Spanish LaLiga side Sevilla is expected to be made official later today with the Nigerian already in Seville for a routine medical, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Iheanacho will be joining the team on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with newly promoted English Premier League side Leicester City, where he spent seven seasons including last season when they campaigned in the English Championship.

A lot of clubs notably Aston Villa, Ipswich Town and Germany’s representative in this season’s UEFA Champions League Stuttgart all make attempts to sign the 27 year old for free. However it was West Ham and Stuttgart who did the most to have him in their squad.

It was also that the Nigerian was drawn to either playing for Stuttgart because of the lure of playing in the Champions League, and West Ham offered him the chance to remain in England where he has been the past nine years.

However a chat with his former teammate and captain of Sevilla Jesus Navas convinced him to pick the Spanish side ahead of others according to Estadio Deportivo. His new agency who have also been involved in transfers to the LaLiga side also used their good relationship to smoothen the deal.

Victor Orta who is the club’s sporting director also spoke with the Nigerian and told him he has been on his trail for a while since his days at Leeds United. He detailed Iheanacho’s stat at his former side much to the excitement of the Nigerian.
