
As many as 35 players have been handed provisional invitation to the Super Eagles squad ahead of their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers game against Benin Republic in Uyo, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Nigeria will begin their AFCON qualifiers campaign at home against neighbors Benin Republic, who defeated them in their last game which was the 2026 world cup qualifiers at their adopted ground in Cote d’Ivoire.
Ahead of the game in September, the senior national team of Nigeria, which has been without a coach since the exit of Finidi George after the defeat to Benin Republic have sent out invitation letters to 35 players.
The list of players was drafted by the technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the list is expected to be handed over to whoever gets the nod as coach of the team.
When appointed, the new coach is expected to trim the number down to a sizeable and manageable number of 25 players ahead of their opening games of the qualifiers. The list is largely made up of the regular players of the team at the last AFCON and also the last world cup qualifiers.
