A chieftain of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says fans of the team should not be worried over the fact that a new coach hasn’t been announced for the team few weeks to the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria will take on Benin Republic and Rwanda respectively in September, but the team is yet to find a replacement for Finidi George, who quit his role as coach six weeks ago after a poor performance in the world cup qualifiers games against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively.
It has led to concerns over the readiness of the team ahead of two crucial games, but a board member of the football body played down the fears by saying a new coach has been appointed, and work has started already.
” We (Super Eagles) have a new coach who has started working on the squad for the games and also studying our opponents. What is missing is an announcement which will be done in the coming days. There is no cause of alarm ahead of the AFCON qualifiers”, he said.
Pressed on if an interim coach is an option, he said the chances of it happen is very slim because of how advanced they have gone with a foreigner, who will be unveiled shortly as the substantive coach of the Super Eagles.
” I don’t think an interim coach kind of thing will happen because ok f the advance nature of negotiations with a coach in permanent capacity. That’s all I can say for now”, he concluded.
