Former Nigeria international defender Taribo West says the interim coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Austine Eguavoen lacks the grace required to succeed as the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria on a permanent deal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Eguavoen led the Super Eagles in their AFCON qualifiers games in September leading them to a 3-0 win over Benin Republic in Uyo and a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in Kigali.

His assignment was for the two games, but after the performance of the team in the qualifiers there are calls for the coach who is in his fourth stint as coach to be made the permanent coach of the team.

Speaking on Brila FM’s ‘No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze’, Taribo, founder of the Shelter in The Storm Miracle Ministry, said, “Anytime Eguavoen leads the team, he brings a certain touch, taking the team back to those glorious days.

“In major tournaments, where you expect them to cross the line, something always happens. What Eguavoen is lacking is only grace.”

While West acknowledged that Eguavoen’s tactical approach often brings out the best in the players, he stressed that results haven’t consistently followed.

“The team will play well, but the results won’t favour them,” said West.

He added, “I don’t see why we go for foreign coaches when we can invest more in our local coaches.”
