The interim coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Austine Eguavoen is set to send out provisional letter of invitations to players for the back to back AFCON 2025 qualifiers games against Libya in October, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Eguavoen will continue in his role as interim coach of the team after leading them to a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw against Rwanda, which see them go top of their group after two rounds of games.
One player who hasn’t been involved since the AFCON in February is 28 year old Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo. He wasn’t listed in all of their four games since playing a role in the team that finished second at the AFCON.
Now back in the English Premier League, Aribo’s exclusion raised eyebrows with some suggestions that he probably asked to be left out of the team owing to the bit part role he played at the AFCON.
” At no point did he tell anyone that he wants to be left out of the team. He is available but he can’t call himself unless the coaches do . I really don’t know where the entire story started from but it’s not true”, a close associate of the former Charlton midfielder revealed.
” Aribo is very ready to represent the Super Eagles whenever he is called up. Retirement from international football is not among his options in the nearest future”, he concluded.
