As the senior national team of Nigeria get set to round up their campaign in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in November, one player has voiced his unhappiness over his non inclusion for over a year, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria will take on Benin Republic at their adopted home ground in Cote d’Ivoire on the 14th before rounding up the series with a game at home against Rwanda four days later. Already players have received prelims invitation for both games.

One player who is certain to miss out is 29 year old Kevin Akpoguma, who last played for the team in 2023 in the AFCON qualifiers 3-2 win away to Sierra Leone on the 18th of June.

Since then he hasn’t been able to add to his eight caps for Nigeria despite his consistent performance in the German Bundesliga for Hoffenheim. This season he has played the full minutes in all of their games so far.

Capped by Germany at various youth levels, he made the switch to Nigeria at senior level in 2021 under coach Gernot Rohr, but he hasn’t nailed down a spot in the team under Jose Peseiro and now says he is available for interim coach Austine Eguavoen.

” They stopped calling me after 2023. I will keep doing my best and hopefully I will get a change”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com via social media when quizzed on his international future.
