Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Austine Eguavoen has told Genk of Belgium top striker Tolu Arokodare that he will get his time in the senior national team of Nigeria following his omission from the list of players for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers games against Benin Republic and Rwanda, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
The decision to leave out the forward who has 8 goals this season generated a lot of discussion with many wondering why he wasn’t given the chance to stake a claim as the Super Eagles might approach the final game at home against Rwanda, with other options if they are able to beat or get a point against Benin Republic on Thursday.
Speaking on the decision to leave out the 23 year old , sources close to the coach revealed that Eguavoen had a chat with Tolu where he explained to him that he wants to work with players he is familiar with in his role as interim coach.
Eguavoen said the task of qualifying the Super Eagles for the AFCON requires experience and that was why Kelechi Iheanacho was picked ahead of Tolu during the last international break, and it’s why he is still not in the team at the moment.
However he assured him that if he continue to work hard then when the team play in test games prior to the resumption of the world cup qualifiers, then he will be given a chance to show what he can do for the team.
