Nigeria international forward Ademola Lookman has been voted as the best African player at the CAF Awards which was held in Morocco on Monday night, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The award is coming on the back of a splendid year for club and country, where he followed up his impressive performance for Nigeria at the AFCON with a hattrick in the 3-0 Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen.
He held off a late rally for PSG defender Achraf Hakimi to win the award, replacing his international teammate Victor Osimhen who won the award last year. His rise with the senior national team of Nigeria has been astronomical the past one year after a slow start to his international career.
Lookman who switched his international allegiance to Nigeria after representing England at various youth levels struggled to find his rhythm with the Super Eagles, but all of that changed in the past one year even at club level.
In the year under review he scored six goals for Nigeria and 28 goals for Atalanta, who are presently pushing for the Serie A title this season.
