The first choice goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria and Chippa United Stanley Nwabali is closing in on achieving one of his career goals in the January transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Linked with a move from Chippa since his exploits for Nigeria at the AFCON in January, the 27 year old made it clear in an interview in October that his dream is to play for fellow PSL side Kaizer Chiefs.
“To be honest, Kaizer Chiefs is really one of the clubs I really want to play [for],” Nwabali told Metro FM.
“This is the club I want to play [for] in South Africa, with all my heart. I won’t say I have been supporting them but this is the club I felt I want to play for.
Asked what would be his response if Chiefs were to approach him at any time with the right offer, Nwabali said, “I don’t know. To be quite honest, the Rwanda guy [Fiacre Ntwari] is really doing well with the club, I wouldn’t take that away from him.
“A lot of clubs have come for me but probably [they are not willing to pay my worth] and probably they are looking at me as ‘it’s just his first hit at Afcon, let’s keep on watching him.’ A lot of clubs always do that.”
His dream move according to sources is about to come true in the January transfer window with Chiefs actively in the market for a goalkeeper after conceding 13 goal in nine games. The highest in the league.
The team have failed to keep a clean sheet despite trying three different keepers in Fiacre Ntwari, Brandon Peterson and Bruce Bvuma so far in their campaign.
Following the team’s 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy yesterday, head coach Nasreddine Nabi communicated plans to reinforce the squad, and according to sources Nwabali is one of the players targeted for a move to Naturena once again.
“Chiefs are interested in Nwabali again. Expect the club to push hard in pursuit of his signature this time around. The team’s defensive record is worrying for the technical team and management, and they will be using the next few weeks to work on a possible solution,” said the source.
