An explanation on why Kenneth Omeruo wasn’t involved with the Super Eagles in any of the games in the AFCON qualifiers has been made known to the editorial team of OwnGoalNigeria.com.

Omeruo wasn’t involved as the Super Eagles under interim coach Austine Eguavoen secured their spot at the December AFCON with a game to spare. It is also highly unlikely that he will be involved when the World Cup Qualifiers resumes in March.

The 31 year old who is one of the most experienced in the present Super Eagles camp is the second vice captain, a proof of his leadership qualities on and off the pitch. He has been a part of the team since 2013.

Explaining his present absence from the team, a member of the backroom staff of the team said it’s down to injuries and fitness concerns, which has sidelined him for the most part of this season for his Turkish side Kasimpasa.

He explained that Omeruo has only played in six games this season, missing the last ten games due to an unspecified injury. His return date is yet unknown making him a huge doubt for the Super Eagles when they regroup for the world cup qualifiers in March.
