29 year old Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy should consider a switch of nationality to the senior national team of Nigeria owing to reports that he is eligible to play for the Nigerian team through his father, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Murphy is enjoying a very good season with Newcastle United with three goals and six assists to his name in 17 matches this season. A run that has opened talks about his international career, which has stalled since his last involvement with England at U21 level in 2017.

Born to an Irish mother and a father of Nigerian descent he is eligible for both nations including England, but still harbour hopes of representing England rather than explore the other options available to him and his twin Josh, who plays for Portsmouth.

With age not on his side and the world cup 2022 on the horizon, it will make a whole lot of sense if he considers switching his nationality to the Nigerian team to have a taste of senior international football.

It is however unlikely that he will be approached by Nigeria unless he make his intention public, and also initiate the process of a change of nationality with FIFA. An option that from all indication isn’t on his mind at the moment.
