Monaco forward George Ilenikhena hasn’t ruled out playing for the senior national team of Nigeria despite the desire of the French Federation to have him commit his future to them, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The forward was born in Lagos but moved to France at a very young age. He has spent the number of years specified by FIFA for one to be eligible to represent their country of residence, but he hasn’t been granted French citizenship.
Technical director of the French Football Federation Hubert Fournier confirmed last year that plans are underway to fast track the process of granting the 18 year old citizenship by naturalization, for him to be able to play for their U20.
There hasn’t been rapid progress in that regard leaving the prospect of playing for the senior national team of Nigeria a huge possiby, with the new coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle a huge admirer of his talents and already plan to speak with him after the world cup qualifiers games in March.
Georg who has been hampered by injuries and fitness issues have scored 3 goals in 19 games this season in Ligue 1. He has the same number of goals from six games in the UEFA Champions League this season.
