The managing director of sport at Bayer Leverkusen has lashed out at the behavior of Victor Boniface in their 4-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt when he had a heated exchange with his teammate Emiliano Buendia during the course of the game.

Boniface who saw a move to Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr collapse at the final minute hasn’t found his way back into the starting lineup, and over the weekend he started from the bench for the third game in a row.

He got involved in a heated argument with Buendia , who was also introduced as a second half substitute in the game. An incident that has dominated the headlines in Germany.

The pair got into each other’s way in an attempt to increase the tally to 5-1 leading to an exchange of angry words, with Boniface pushing the Argentine after using his index finger to tell him off. They were separated by teammates.

Managing director of the club Simon Rolfes lamented the act of Boniface pushing Buendia, even though he admitted that he likes when players show desire to win. “We want a team that’s ‘alive’, but Boni doesn’t have to push him away”, he said.

His other teammates also gave their opinion on the disagreement as they fear up for their UEFA Champions League game against Bayern Munich.

Jonathan Tah: “These are emotions. Everyone wants to score.”

Alex GarcĂa, who wanted to take the corner: “I saw it, but I didn’t know it was between Boniface and Emi. I don’t know what happened, but it’s football, it’s the heat of the game, so – it’s not important.”
