Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has explained the criteria he used in handing call ups to players in his team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The coach who is currently in camp with the B team preparing for the CHAN championship is expected to make public his list of players for the upcoming world cup qualifiers games against Rwanda and South Africa respectively next month.
Speaking on the criteria for selection, Chelle who have been in charge of the team for five games listed three main things he considers, before any call up to a player.
“First of all, you need to have playing time. You need to be in top physical shape and you need to be good too. Then, the last thing is tactically. As a coach, you don’t have time. When I took over the Nigerian national team, I only had two sessions before the match”, he told Onze Mondial.
“So, in two training sessions, I have to be able to quickly get the message across and what I want for my team. Physically, the player has to be in shape. He also has to be tactically intelligent to be ready to understand and apply my instructions. You also need good technical quality. And finally, you have to be mentally ready.”
