Head coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle has handed a call up to Nigeria U20 goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt to join the team at the ongoing CHAN Championship after their opening defeat against Senegal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria were beaten 1-0 by Senegal in their opening game with goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal not covering himself in glory with his decision to rush out of his box, although he wasn’t helped by the centre defence duo of Junior Nduka and Leonard Ngenge, who were all over the place.
Chelle however didn’t make the choice of calling Harcourt based on that, but primarily due to the fact that the other goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena was injured although he is back in training.
The coach is a huge admirer of the young goalkeeper after his exploits with the Nigeria U20 team at the U20 AFCON. He is seen as the next big thing in goal for Nigeria.
His presence will not just be for cover, as he might be given game time if he shows the same form that made the coach to pick a strong interest in him.
