Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has sent provisional invitations to players who will be a part of the team for the upcoming world cup qualifiers games against Rwanda and South Africa respectively, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria will be looking to breathe life into their campaign when they host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo on the 6th of September , before a trip away to the group leaders South Africa.
As requested by FIFA, the head coach has sent provisional invitations to around 40 players from where he will pick a final list of 23 players for both games. We can exclusively report that FC Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi was among the players who received the invitation letters.
Zaidu hasn’t been involved with the Super Eagles since picking up an ACL injury that kept him out of action for more than one year. Back to full fitness and after playing in Porto’s first game of the season last weekend.
Meanwhile Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers who played his way back into the team after his performances at the Unity Cup invitational tournament in England won’t be a part of the team.
We gathered his omission is due to the fact that he is currently injured, and not expected to be fit before the games. It’s a similar case for goalkeeper Maduka Okoye who will be absent due to the betting ban, which will see him out of competitive action until October.
Out of favour Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho will however miss out of the squad completely on account of his poor form, and also his uncertain future which has made it impossible for him to be registered for the start of the new season in Spain.
