I Regret Not Playing Him – Super Eagles Coach Laments Benching Oyowah At CHAN After MOTM Award

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has lamented his decision to bench Alex Oyowah terming it as one of his regrets after his man of the match performance in their 2-0 win over Congo.

Following Nigeria’s exit from the tournament after back to back defeat in their first two games, the game a dead rubber game was his first at the tournament, but the Remo Stars midfielder used the game to announce himself to the rest of the world after making no appearance in the first two games of the tournament.

He was awarded the man of the match award and after the game, Chelle said benching the 20 year old was one of his regrets at the tournament, alongside not giving regular game time to Anas Yusuf who finished as top scorer last season. Yusuf scored Nigeria’s first goal of the tournament in the win.

“I have a lot of regrets, he was not ready until two days ago, just like Anas Yusuf. In all, all the players have to be ready for games they will play going forward.”
