Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has abandoned the 4-4-2 diamond formation his team has always played since he became coach to 4-2-3-1 for today’s game against Rwanda in the world cup qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com understands.
Chelle will lead Nigeria into today’s game knowing that they have fallen nine points behind the leaders South Africa who were 3-0 winners over Lesotho yesterday.
A win will see them cut the point difference to six before Tuesday’s game away to the leaders. A mission that seems possible with Nigeria winning the reverse tie of this game 2-0 in Kigali.
A four man defence setup with a double pivot will protect the goal of Nigeria, with two wingers and an attacking midfielder playing in attack behind the main striker.
The idea is to have more offensive players in the final third, but also not letting loose of the need to defend better which proved costly last time out when they conceded late to draw 1-1 against Zimbabwe in Uyo.
