The talisman of the senior national team of Gabon Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has picked the game against the senior national team of Nigeria as the most important in his team’s quest to be at the 2026 World Cup, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria will take on Gabon on the 13th of November in Morocco, with both team pushing for a spot in the final of the mini tournament against the winner of the other tie between Cameroon and Congo Dr.
Aubameyang who scored four goals for Gabon in his last game, which he got sent off sees the game against Nigeria as the most important before any thoughts about the other game.
” We have to beat Nigeria to stand a chance of playing in the other game. So it is for me the main game in our quest to be at the world cup next year. We can’t afford to lose it and we know they have quality players as well”, he said.
His statement is not too different from what coach of Gabon Thierry Mouyouma said while looking ahead to the tournament, that guarantees a spot in the continental playoff for the winner.
The coach told Sporting News Africa: “To get 25 points and not qualify is hard to take. We are ready. It will be a good match to play (against Nigeria), and a good test for the 2025 AFCON.”
