Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has handed on loan Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface another chance to make an impression ahead of next month Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Boniface hasn’t gotten a look in since his poor performance in the friendly game against Russia in June, where he was hooked off at half time ending his search for his first international goal for Nigeria.
Heading into the AFCON, the 24 year old who is on loan to Werder Bremen is among the players listed in the preliminary list of players for the tournament with two assists to his name from 8 games.
Chelle is a huge fan of his ability and believe a regular run of games between now, and when the tournament gets underway will help him reach a level good enough for the team.
His return is coming on the back of the poor performance of Tolu Arokodare in the world cup qualifiers playoff final against Dr Congo. However Arokodare is also listed in the expanded squad.
