Maduka Okoye has been left out of the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco, OwnGoalNigeria.com gathered.

The decision to leave the Udinese first choice was taken by head coach Eric Chelle after talks which sources say is centred around getting regular game time.

Okoye was widely expected to be the man to challenge Stanley Nwabali for the first choice , and with the South Africa based shot stopper nursing a knock, Okoye was prime to take his spot as the first choice but that isn’t feasible.

He has been left out of the team with Nwabali now fit and free to play at the tournament. Amas Obasogie and Francis Uzoho are the other two who will go into the tournament as back up.

Meanwhile another surprise is in attack, where Viktoria Plzen of Czech Republic forward Rafiu Durosinmi has been left out for Croatia based Salim Fago Lawal.

Lawal who plays for Istra was a late inclusion in the team ahead of Durosinmi. A shock decision considering the fact that Fago has four goals in 26 league games this season.

The former Nigeria U20 forward has six goals in all competitions from a total of 18 games.
