Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella is unhappy with the decision of the head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle to leave him out of the team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Tella who is back to full fitness after an injury setback played for half an hour over the weekend as his team run out 2-0 winners against Cologne in the German Bundesliga.
It was his seventh game of the season in Germany with the club where he won the league and cup double in his first season at the club, two years ago but he hasn’t found favour with the senior national team of Nigeria.
Born in England to parents of Nigerian descent, the 26 year old has so far made just two appearances for the Nigerian team despite his fine form at club levels. That sequence continued after he was left out of the team for the upcoming AFCON.
He made the initial preliminary list of players for the tournament but was left out of the final 28 man list for the tournament proper. “This is beneficial for Leverkusen, of course. But Nathan had hopes, real hopes,”Kasper Hjulmand the coach of Bayer Leverkusen revealed.
