The table toppers in Ukraine LNZ have completed a a deal to sign Nigerian midfielder Adams Yakub from Slovakia side AS Trenčín in the January transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
A product of the famous GBS Academy in Jos, the 20-year-old has seen his stock rise dramatically in the Slovak Super Liga, prompting a scramble for his signature as the winter transfer window approaches.
Championship contenders Watford and Leicester City were understood to be monitoring the youngster’s situation closely, alongside Belgian side KAA Gent and perennial Champions League participants Shakhtar Donetsk.
However it was LNZ who won the race for his signing with an agreement already struck ahead of making the deal officialy tomorrow. He has already passed a routine medical and also completed his first interview as a player of the club.
Yakubu became a star in the Nigerian league when at the age of 17 he nailed down a permanent spot in the team of Akwa United, the same thing he did at fellow top division side Plateau United before his move to Slovakia.
A defensive midfielder but also comfortable playing in a more advanced role, he leaves the Slovakian side after making a total of 33 appearances in a little over a year at the club.
