Genoa defender Alessandro Marcandalli hasn’t been contacted to play for Nigeria despite making it clear that he is open to the idea of switching from Italy, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Last weekend Marcandalli who is primarily a centre back bagged two assists in a 3-2 win for Genoa in the Serie A, his 16th appearance in the Italian top division this season.
Last year he revealed that the option of playing for Nigeria is a topic of interest to him not minding the fact that he has played for Italy at U21 level. “I haven’t thought about it yet; I have time to make a decision. When the time comes, if there is a call-up, then I will choose,” he told Il Secolo XIX.
A source close to the 23 year old revealed in an exclusive chat with our reporter that there has been no contact, or whatsoever from Nigeria since he made that statement.
” I am not sure they are aware of him because no one has contacted his camp. I hold close ties with his agent and also friends. There is nothing yet from Nigeria at the moment, so hoping for an Italian call up is the only option at the moment, but it could change in the coming days. You never know”, he said.
