The chairman National Sports Commission (NSC) Shehu Dikko has briefed the president of the federal Republic of Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the current protest by Nigeria against DR Congo, for fielding ineligible players against Super Eagles in the word cup qualifiers playoff tournament.
Nigeria protested that certain players in the team of DR Congo, who beat Nigeria in the final of the tournament to pick the sole ticket to represent Africa at the intercontinental playoff had dual nationality, which is against the constitution of the country.
FIFA were supposed to pass a judgement on the protest a few days ago, but there has been nothing of such. Dikko during a visit to the president at the Presidential Villa said among the things he discussed with the president was the state of the protest.
If successful, Nigeria will take the place of DR Congo in next month’s playoff in Mexico, where the two finalist will get a ticket to be at the world cup in June. If it fails it will mean Nigeria missing out on two consecutive editions of the tournament after failing to qualify for the 2022 edition.
