New Super Eagles Defender Latest Black Player To Suffer Racist Abuse

Rangers of Scotland defender Emmanuel Fernandez was a subject of racist abuse after his team’s 2-2 draw against Livingston in the Scottish Premier League.

Fernandez scored the first goal for his team in the 81st minute, helping them to overcome a 2-0 deficit to tie the game 2-2. Despite his performances he was subjected to racial insults from disgruntled fans on social media.

Police in Scotland have open investigation after Fernandez and Djeidi Gassama shared screenshots of racist abuse aimed at them on their social media accounts after the game on Sunday.

London-born centre-half Fernandez, who qualifies to play for Nigeria through his parents have already committed his international future to the senior national team of Nigeria.

He took the decision after holding talks with head coach Eric Chelle, who will likely include him in his list of players for the upcoming friendly games if he is able to secure a Nigerian passport before then.
