Borussia Dortmund midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has made his decision on the country he wants to represent at senior level, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Born in Austria to parents of Nigerian descent and raised in England, he was eligible for all three countries but only represented England at various youth levels.
Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle made contact with his to play for his team, around the same time like Austria who are heading to the world cup unlike Nigeria.
Carney has chosen to represent Austria at senior level, opting against England or Nigeria, bringing an end to the debate about his senior international career.
FIFA’s official Change of Association Platform shows that the 22-year-old Vienna-born midfielder has switched his allegiance from England, who he represented at youth level, to Austria.
He could make his debut for Austria as early as this month and now has a strong chance of being included in the squad for this summer’s World Cup.
