Bayern Munich Star Was Close To Playing For Super Eagles – Rohr Reveals

Former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has lifted the lid on how close Bayern Munich star Michel Olise came to playing for the senior national team of Nigeria five years ago, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

In March 2021 , Rohr was then the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria called Olise who was then playing for Reading in the English Championship to the team in his list of 24 players for the AFCON qualifiers against against Benin Republic and Lesotho.

Olise was placed on standby as he was yet to get a Nigerian passport, but things a different turn entirely after the games were put on hold due to the outbreak of the corona virus pandemic, Olise ended up taking a different national team career path.

He decided to rather wait for France after moving to Crystal Palace. Now fully established at Bayern Munich and the French national team. Rohr reflects on what could have been his biggest coup as coach of the Super Eagles.

” The virus played a huge role because he was willing to come. There was no football for a while and when he moved to the English Premier League at the end of that season. He had other options and decided to take it. I am happy he is doing well”, Rohr said.
