The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is waiting for the English FA to ratify the switch of nationality of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo from England to Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The letter from the English FA is the final step required to free him to play for Nigeria, after representing England from U-15 to U-18 levels with 12 games under his belt.

Okonkwo who picked his 10th clean sheet yesterday in the English Championship for Wrexham in their 2-0 win over Swansea City has already accepted to play for Nigeria, after talks with head coach Eric Chelle.

He has been very pivotal to Wrexham, who are eyeing promotion to the English Premier League and are currently 6th which guarantees a spot in the promotion playoff at the end of the season.

Chelle is keen to have the former Arsenal goalkeeper in his ranks and held talks with him in the summer. Okonkwo is in the list of players called up to the senior national team of Nigeria for their upcoming friendly games in March.

Even though he might not be involved officially unless the English FA sends the letter before the games, Chelle wants him around to begin the process of his integration into the team.
